A forum for advances in minimally invasive,
The 50th Annual WAIS CME Conference
will be held September 19-24, 2020!
Join us for the WAIS 50th Golden Anniversary Conference!
More than 50 years ago, WAIS began as a Western region "angio club" where the early pioneers established a forum for collaborative discussion about new procedures for image-guided therapies. Countless advancements have occurred over five decades and we look forward to celebrating this amazing history through "never been done before" sessions, special events, and networking with guest luminaries and dignitaries from the family of IR Societies.
Conference Highlights & Program
This year's theme is 2020 Vision: Looking Back, Looking Forward.
While this meeting is visionary in its scope, at its heart it is practical. Overall, our goal is to educate IRs, impact practice patterns, and shape the future of IR. What's new for the 50th? Read about some of the activities we have planned for this year's conference.
WAIS Past Presidents - We've invited all Past Presidents of the Western Angiographic & Interventional Society to contribute to the program or to share stories from the past 50 years of WAIS conferences and Interventional Radiology. To date, there have been 48 WAIS presidents (two MDs have held the office twice). We'll have a bio to recognize each one who served our Society.
Guest Luminaries & Society Dignitaries - WAIS has invited guest luminaries and dignitaries from the Interventional Radiology family of Societies. We are pleased to host officers from CIRSE, BSIR, SIR, SIO, CIRA, AVIR, ARIN, the Interventional Initiative and others. You can also check out the program to see some of Interventional Radiology's giants and pioneering physicians!
Physician Well-Being Focus - Physician burnout can have a significant impact on organizational productivity, morale, costs, and the quality of care that is delivered. As a result, the AMA and ACCME have recently developed a call to action for organizations to promote health & well-being for physicians. At this year's conference, WAIS is offering a wellness theme through a conference step challenge, a Wellness for Life presentation, dedicated discussions about avoiding burnout and morning meditation sessions.
Innovations in IR Poster Contest - To celebrate the 50th anniversary of WAIS and the luminaries who contributed so significantly to our field, we are excited to host a very special poster session during the meeting that will focus on IR innovations. Poster finalists have been invited to present at a special VIRTUAL PRESENTATION. Winners will receive free registration or accommodations at the next WAIS conference in 2021.
Early IR Course - We've designed a special breakout session for early IRs that includes a hands-on workshop and luncheon with the Golden Lava exhibitors, followed by a 2-hour session designed for early IRs to learn tips and lessons learned from established IRs and luminaries.
Welcome Reception - As we do each year, we will open the conference with a welcome sunset reception. This year, we have some extra surprises planned to kick off this special event, including a drone captured group photo shoot. Stay tuned for more details.
Games, Contests & Prizes - How well do you know the history of WAIS and Interventional Radiology? We have a history walk, trivia contests, an exhibit hall passport challenge and a number of other contests to learn about our amazing field of medicine while we celebrate the people, places and developments of Western Angiographic & Interventional Society.
WAIS 50th Logo Products - A 50th Golden Anniversary, a new logo and a bright future! All conference registrants can choose between a WAIS logo laptop bag (charcoal with mixed fabric) or H2Go hydration bottles (White, Aqua or Cobalt).
Can't decide which one? Need to bring some back to the IR team?
